You are right. I went there in the mid-fifties , all boys but we linked with some of the all-girl schools in the area.
Tech students were very popular for parties, since we were all so "brainy" , neat and relatively good mannered. Only the Bronx High School of Science had a better reputation for smarts, but we could beat the crap out of them on the football field.

The school is now coeducational with open admissions. Standards have declined accordingly. In my time it was the city school everyone wanted to get into, now it is probably the school everyone wants to get out of.
