How it Works

Complete vaporization of fuel is far from perfect in today's cars. A certain amount of fuel in most engines remains liquid in the hot chamber. In order to become a true gas and be fully combusted, fuel must undergo a phase change.

Surface tension presents an obstacle to vaporization. For instance the energy barrier from surface tension can sometimes force water to reach 300 degrees Fahrenheit before it vaporizes. Similarly with gasoline.

Acetone drastically reduces the surface tension. Most fuel molecules are sluggish with respect to their natural frequency. Acetone has an inherent molecular vibration that "stirs up" the fuel molecules, to break the surface tension. This results in a more complete vaporization with other factors remaining the same. More complete vaporization means less wasted fuel, hence the increased gas mileage from the increased thermal efficiency.

That excess fuel was formerly wasted past the rings or sent out the tailpipe but when mixed with acetone it gets burned.

Acetone allows gasoline to behave more like the ideal automotive fuel which is PROPANE. The degree of improved mileage depends on how much unburned fuel you are presently wasting. You might gain 15 to 35-percent better economy from the use of acetone. Sometimes even more.

Actually, it was William Randolph Hearst who drove the hysteria surrounding hemp and more specifically, its by-product, marijuana. He saw the threat that hemp posed to his paper milling companies. He alos went to DuPont to whip them into a paranoid frenzy over the the application of hemp oil in industrial coatings and lubricants.
With his agenda set he enlisted the aid of several government higher-ups and was the force behind the illegalization of hemp.

Where did you get this information? Acetone only rates a 1 for health, I looked up the MSDS and it is not considered a carcinogen.

Had a couple of friends who had an old junker with a gas tank leak. They added another small tank and left the original in place. Their biggest thrill was to go to a "gas" station and fill up the tank with water, get out a bag of moth balls and argue about how many to add then drive off after making sure people noticed them.

You can smell acetone on the breath of some diabetics. It isn't that poisonous, as far as organic solvents go. Methanol, methylene chloride, toluene, and tetrahydrofuran are much worse. It's about as toxic as isopropanol, rubbing alcohol.

I don't know if it is that way or that the higher octane fuel won't self-ignite so easily under pressure before the spark. It would seem that the engine would need to be adjusted for a fuel with different volatility.

So, should I put it in my gastank?

We used acetone to clean paint brushes and other sprayer parts for years, until many of them were made with plastic. Acetone and plastic do not mix. We had plastic light lens, when we cleaned the overspray, that almost "melted" from the acetone.

I'm only assuming but; if it burns the fuel more efficiently it would increase power along with gas mileage. But burning the fuel more efficiently would increase internal engine temperatures, which is something our engines weren't designed to do. Thus you would need a new type of engine. But I'm only assuming.

Getting 35% better mileage from a fuel that costs $6/gallon (200% more) isn't exactly a win.It is when you consider the tiny amounts of that fuel that you mix in with the gasoline, 2-3 ounces per 10 gallons. That 1 gallon of acetone would treat some 420-640 gallons. Lets say its 420. at $2.00 per gallon, thats $840 bucks. So for $846, you get %20+ better mileage. _IF_ this works as advertised (which I still doubt his mileage figures), it would be a big benefit.

Higher octane slows down combustion. Thus the expansion power is utilized during more of the stroke in the engine. Thats why V8's can use higher octane, that is unnecessary in rice burners.
