Officials Strive to Inform Immigrants That Sex With Minors Is Illegal
She was 16, but with her small stature, enormous brown eyes and eighth-grader's innocence, she looked more like 13. He was 24. She was sure she loved him.
He had a job in a hotel. He was good to her, respectful. And it thrilled her when she'd hear him say, "No one will ever love you the way I love you."
If they had been in El Salvador, the country where both were born, no one would have thought twice about their relationship; older men often went with women far younger. Girls routinely married at 14 or 16. But here in America, it's different.

I guess they're just having the sex that Ameicans won't.
I saw this coming with the gay marriage debates. Now the media will attack everything dealing with American cultural norms stating that we are too stuck-up. This is where this is going:
1. What's the big deal about not allowing gay marriage and gay parents to adopt children. Our culture is sexually insecure and insensitive.
2. Hey, why can't polygamy be allowed? Our culture is too stuck up.
3. You know our culture is too stuck up about sex between older men and teenage girls.
4. Why can't old men have sex with young boys if both are willing?
5. Why can't older men hire young, but willing children for sex...?
You can see the slippery slope at the start.

When did it become the responsibility of the state to educate foreigners on our laws? They are guests here, legally or illegally and it should be incumbent on them to know the law of the land.
I'm a citizen and can't plead ignorance of the law. Why can a foreigner?
I have to say I'm torn on this whole matter in the sense that a woman's body is built to have babies in a certain peak period, and that's, I'm afraid, in their teens.
Because we live longer, the period for giving birth has become, well, expanded, and the side effects could explain - in part - the trend in lower birth weights and of course our slowed population growth.
On the other hand, if a 24-year old guy wanted to have sex with my teenage daughter, he'd find newer and clearer meaning in the words "hands off".
Weird. This would be perfectly legal here in MI. Age of consent is 16.
