Darwin also acknowledged that the fossil record does suggest the "sudden appearance of whole groups of allied species all at once." He noted that if this fact were to stand, and "numerous species belonging to the same genera or families have really started into life all at once, . . . [it] would be fatal to the theory of descent with slow modification through natural selection."

Thanks, bonserv, for the ping to this excellent article.

Oh, medicine has nothing do with the study of biology. Sheesh!

To much pressure from his friends caused him to scramble back into the darkness. It happened with the Journal that published Stephen Meyers paper too.

A little cherry-picking

I gave a fairly rumbustious talk, arguing that the theory of evolution had done more harm than good to biological systematics (classification).

Evolutionists, in every form, are disagreeing with God.

So, let's not beat around the bush here. What is the penalty for being an evolutionist?

If I had my Strongs here I'd find and post the verse that says the world was made from water. That smacks in the face of evolution.

My other favorite is Jer 2:27: Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

This is pretty much a warning from God not to believe in evolution. Most people miss this beautiful little gem.

Calling names merely shows your insecurity and low character. I take the trouble to try to inform you in your errors. And by the way, Patterson's retreat [if that's what it was] shows he's afraid of your type of character.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA!

Great pounce! Patterson goes on:
"The specific quote you mention, from a letter to Sunderland dated 10th April 1979, is accurate as far as it goes. The passage quoted continues ‘... a watertight argument. The reason is that statements about ancestry and descent are not applicable in the fossil record.

Caution is the best remedy when treading on clearly stated Biblical statements. I personally was not a witness to the Creation of our universe, and being that there is much confusion regarding how to prove scientifically what happened, it is prudent to turn to a trusted authority on the subject.

Evolution is compelling in it's ability to explain variation and adaptation, as the author fully recognizes, however extrapolating beyond that places a person in a position of having faith in explanations that don't always line up, and are often contradicted. Something the Bible hasn't had to deal with even though there has been two thousand years of the finest minds trying to tear it down.

Like God, I say it is your call. He created you with the capacity to choose who/what you will follow. He is reasonable and open to your investigation of His ways.

Thank you so much for the kudos but betty boop is the great mind, I'm a midget. She speaks of the forest, I speak of the leaf.

And though I love these debates --- sadly, I won't be around much after tonight through Sunday. We'll be gone Wednesday to Friday and will have company over the weekend. I'll be missing y'all.

Jeepers, Alamo-Girl -- I strongly doubt this!!! I'll miss you while you're gone. Have a blessed Easter!

Enjoy your company and the celebration of our Lord's authentification of His valid work of Salvation.

All he was saying was that it was impossible to say a particular species descended directly from another species in the fossil record and that the earlier fossil might be an uncle species, rather than a father species. Any way you cut it, you were wrong in your implication that he was saying the fossil record cannot be used to support evolution, which is what you attempted to do by pulling that quote out of context. In other words, you're as dishonest as they come.

Not really. Misquotes are so easy to check up on, it's a wonder your average creationist hasn't abandoned that line of attack. But then again, adaptation is anethema to them.

[ We live longer, are healthier and more productive than at any time in human history. Let's not even mention our technological advancements. ]

Being healthier and more productive is mandatory for devolved humans to survive, if in fact thats true, maybe THEY got sick LESS.. Technology is just widgitary filigree and has no relation to quality of life.. Quality of life is internal not external.. Happiness comes from within not from without..

[ Once you start with a sufficiently large group of people, incest isn't really a problem. Even an original genetic pool of a few hundred would probably have been enough. ]

Really.. Name the study from some devolved human... I didn't say all were infected with geneological malformations.. only those that deem evolutionary theory as fact.. but democrats might be infected too.. maybe even RINOs.. or College Professors..

I'm not calling names. I'm pointing out your dishonesty. Of course, a number of us have pointed out your dishonesty on a number of threads. If your position is so unassailable, one wonders why you have to stoop to lying to take out the competition.

If I had my Strongs here I'd find and post the verse that says the world was made from water.

Actually you're thinking of cosmology rather than evolution. The Revised Standard Edition rendering of the 2nd Book of Peter chapter 3, verses 4 and 5 are:

"5: They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago, and an earth formed out of water and by means of water,

6: through which the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. "

I see no conflict with this statement from a scienific point of view. Water is hydrogen and oxygen. All elements are made from hydrogen atoms or their by-products in stars. And oxygen is what you're currently breathing.

Also enough water falls on the earth from space to cover it in 1 inch of water every 20,000 years.
