TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -
0321schiavo-am A federal judge on Tuesday refused to order the reinsertion of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, denying an emergency request from the brain-damaged woman's parents.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge James Whittemore comes after feverish action by President Bush and Congress on legislation allowing her contentious case to be reviewed by federal courts.

Oh God,
That's not fair. Poor Terri!
You had to know this was coming. I'll bet this Judge's mind was made up before the case ever came before him. The foot-dragging made that plain.
Now what happens? Appealable?
Is this because he has ruled on the case or because he won't order it re-inserted as a preliminary?
Can Jeb do anything?
Hard to say at this point if it's over or not, no one has seen the actual ruling on paper.
He hasn't determined the facts in the case, but apparently doesn't believe it critical to preserve her life as he proceeds to do so.
Right on, that's what I thought.
Yeah, sounds like he was dragging his feet.
This judge is a Clinton appointee, anyone who thought he would rule on reinserting the tube was naive.
I would expect him not issue a ruling as he awaits her death. That way he can simply set it aside as moot.
Judge is a Clinton appointee. FL courts do it again. I think this is appealable, and now it can go all the way to the SC. And I hope it does.
Another divisive issue that America must deal with. Choose you this day, America, who you will serve. Choose life, that you may live.
The fundamental problem is that the truth about the high quality of Terri's condition has been suppressed by the MSM. If everyone would hear the tape of her laughing at her loving father's jokes, the tide would be turned in no time.
Praying for wisdom and courage on the part of the point men on the side of right, and for sustaining power, and eventually healing, for Terri. May the selfish motives of the Michael Schiavos of this case be made apparent to all.
While unfortunate (indeed tragic), this is the all too predicatable result of Congress' decision to put Terri Schiavo's life in the hands of a federal judge. Both Congress and the Florida Legislature could have taken more direct measures, but politicians repeatedly give power to judges, because 1) they can then claim to have "done something" and 2) they can blame the judge when things go wrong, all the while claiming they've done all they could.
Since it will move up the judicial chain, he's pretty much washed his hands of any responsibility at this point.
BINGO!
This Judge is ruling on the merits of the case and without the emotion or political machinations of the Congress . It took courage to make this decision. 19 other Judges have made pretty much the same ruling over the last 7 years. All of them are not evil men as will be implied here. The decision they made is the right decision IMO. This is a highly emotional issue and there are those who are on both sides of it.
It has been implied in many posts in this forum that those who feel Terri should be allowed to rest in peace are evil, pro-death, stupid, misinformed, and other things even worse. These accusations are the result of emotions and not reasonable thought. Just because someone doesnt agree with your side of an issue that dosnt mean they are evil, it also doesnt mean they are necessarily wrong.
Why do you hope that?
You know very well that Breyer, Souter, Ginsburg, Kennedy and Stevens would gladly pull the tube out with their own hands.
Every Federal judge in the country knows it, too.
Executive action has always been the only hope in this case. And it ain't gonna happen.
