Bump your post. I think it's a hoot--buying property that fronts a public beach and then trying to keep the public out.
They can buy their own lake, own frontage on a river (though then they'd still have to tolerate kayakers and rafters)...but in many states, you can't buy your own ocean. I'm trying to remember what the laws in Hawaii are...
I believe all the beaches in Hawaii are public.
