I am sorry, I do not have much access to the "American newspapers and magazines from 1944". What I notive is that most of people in America today know about the uprising in Warsaw Ghetto of 1943 and if they hear about general Warsaw uprising of 1944 they confuse it with the first.
Right, Americans are somewhat sloppy in history, sir, confusing events such as this.
But my point had been that AT THE TIME the uprisings took place, Americans were more aware of the one in 1944, than the one in 1943. It was not until years afterwards that the one in 1943 was better-publicized.
And many that do know about the second uprising, bought the Soviet line that those Poles were foolish, and that they should have waited for the Red Army to "liberate" them.
They don't understand that the Soviets actually told the AK to attack, and then they stood by and did nothing until the Germans had done their dirty work for them.
