There was more than one appeal to the USSC. There are multiple parties in this case. They each bring a seperate cause of action or have a different claim for standing. Read up on it.

BTW you started it with the Einstein crack. Don't start what you can't finish.

Speaking of famous physicists I believe it was Dirac who wryly commented that a hapless colleague's hare-brained theory was so bad it wasn't even wrong.

Dirac's observations might just as aptly be applied to the silly non sequiturs being made here that this bill is a bill of attainder.

This bill does nothing but say the federal court can check the case out.

It doesn't make the legislature into the judiciary.

If a bill of attainder removes the civil rights of a person after they have been sentenced to death or criminal act, I don't see how that applies to Terri Schiavo.

I think I could argue that this bill grants her civil rights which had been removed. Or at least seeks to preserve her right to due process.

How many other "inconvenient" people would find their plug pulled if this precedent would be allowed to stand?

Sadly, quite a few already have.

Hugh Finn

Christine Busalacchi

Marjorie Nighbert

Ella Bathurst

Richard Routh

Nancy Cruzan

Paul Brophy

Marcia Gray

That should do for now, there are more but I am tired..

What are your credentials to make you a constitutional law authority?

Actually, I don't think FD made any such claim. What he was doing is discounting the logic of the poster to whom he responded. Much like I am doing with this and any subsequent posts you might make on this subject.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE FLA. LEGISLATURE? Couldn't they have enacted a law which would pertain to Fla. which would have taken care of this?

I believe the FL Legislature attempted such a move, but it was defeated in the FL Senate. So, the US Congress was really the end of the line if Terri was to be saved. Thank goodness that the C came through for once--and on a bipartisan level to boot (many Dems actually were on board for this one, but we all know which party was the impetus).

"It is about beating back the culture of death. Terri is a symbol." Well said. It's that and beating the enemys of Christianity. Long live the Culture of Life as espoused by Jesus Christ our Lord.

I hate to see it reduced to Terri being a symbol or as a religious victory. It's broader in scope than that to me. There are no doubt some of no religion who might embrace the culture of life.

I don't like it to be seen as an exclusively religious matter. There are pagans who would have fougt to save Terri, just as there were pagans who did heinous things. Their ability to fight would have been limited, but they would have cared for their disabled the best they were able.

"You need to read up on what a Bill of Attainder actually is."

Apparently so do quite a few.. even though they have been quoted word and chapter about what a Bill of Attainder is, they keep beating that horse..

So what are you saying - the USSC didn't deny without comment?

I believe I said that their case was denied in federal court for the very reason they didn't have standing. Tonights legislation gave the parents that standing.

Garbage. The federal government, on rare occasions, has to act as the guarantor of the rights of the individual. Mrs. Schaivo's were badly trampled upon by the courts stating that hearsay is sufficient for her to be deprived of her life. The federal government would have been remiss in its duty in not being mindful of the rights of the individual and not acting in this instance. Your "states rights" rhetoric is just an excuse for killing the poor woman.

Thank God.

Thank President Bush and the members of Congress who had the guts to see what was right and act accordingly despite the twisted, decaying mentality of our current society.

May God watch over, guide and help Terri and her family.

As for Michael Schiavo, Mr. Felos, Judge Greer and the demented pro-death culture, may their vile souls rot in eternal damnation along with the filthy animals that spawned them.

That's my 2 cents and if someone doesn't like it, they can add themselves to the latter list.

... Am I the only one uncomfortable with the idea of a law written for one person? ....

I sort of wish they would maintain this level of detail when it comes to whether a person should live or die.

The word of her husband, who has started a new family, and has an axe to grind by insisting on pulling the feeding tube, while her parents who feel unconditional love stand by her side.

Who are these 58 congressional morons who voted against saving her?

To repeat: George W.Bush - President for Life!

Quite significant, as a matter of fact. But don't trust me on the meaning of "bill of attainder." Just look it up - if not in Black's Law Dictionary, then any dictionary'll do. ChicagoHebrew clearly doesn't know what the term means.
