That was my impression of what the new law says. All new - all evidence heard - Terri to have her own attorney to protect her rights.

Let me clear this up. Whittemore ruled on a motion to restore the feeding tube pending the court's decision on a de novo consideration of the evidence. The standard for issuing such an order is whether there is substantial evidence supporting the moving party's assertion of the facts. In this case, the judge ruled that the Schindlers did not meet that burden of proof. He did not rule on the facts of the case; only on the limited motion. However, this is an extremely good indication of how he would rule on the substantive case.
