Even if she did make such a comment at one time in the past. People often change their minds, especially when they are the ones that are ill. I had a long conversation with a friend of mine who stated that he would not want to live if he had an incurable disease. He said he would shoot himself if he ever got terminal cancer. Well you guessed it, today he has throat cancer, lung cancer, diabetes, and his prognosis is hopeless. But he is fighting for every day and every hour.

Somerset Maugham wrote a story about a 'chap' out in the South Pacific who took a lump sum, instead of an annuity, when he retire, saying he'd shoot himself if his money ran out before he died. When that time came, he chickened out and lived by begging from the natives -- a terrible end for a Brit of that period!
