Most chose Barabbas, as well.

In my church this morning the Gospel was read with several voices. We, the congregation, were Peter - denying the Lord, the crowd mocking Christ and calling for Barabbas, and other equally terrible things.
Saying those words, as part of a 'mob,' was chilling, and very instructive.
That was the genius of Mel's camera work in The Passion.
The angle changed rapidly so that we were, in turn, Christ accused watching His accusers and then we were the accusers, hurtling insults and blows upon Him.
The same with Judas and the bag of silver.
We were behind it as it was thrown, as though we'd done it yet instantly we were in front of it as though we were catching it.
Spectacular "point of view" changing which allowed us to experience the full emotion of being on -all- sides nearly at once.
