Let's have some Federal Legislation on animal cruelty, too. May as well, while we're overriding state legislatures and state courts.

I was right. your real problem isn't the timing of the effort to help Terri. It's the effort itself. And of course, you know that the Constitution doesn't extend rights to animals, so Congress wouldn't have authority under the 14th amendment to legislate animal rights (as it DOES have authority under the 14th amendment to legislate for HUMAN rights -- if you don't believe that, read section 5 of the 14th amendment).

You also have a problem with the Civil Rights Act of 1964? do you think state legislatures and state courts - in southern backwaters like Pinellas County - should still be allowed to legislate and enforce segregation? Congress violated their "rights" big-time when it forced them to stop. But that's the thing about the federal Constitution - - it can't be abridged by local politicians and judges; it puts human rights above "states' rights"
