- To answer people questions about what he was in prison before is that he was involved in 2 previous incidents of sexual molestation of a minor. He has been charged with violation of parole - he failed to register which is a requirement under state law and fled the jurisdiction without consent.
- A RSO (registered sex offender) cannot leave the jurisdiction without the consent of the police agency in the area of the offence or residence. You can move within the State or even outside of the State with good reason and with consent but the police force in the area that you are moving to has to be notified
- What is even sicker is that 3 people have been arrested who had direct knowledge of what this sicko did and did not report him to the police. There was a 4th person but they were arrested on failure to pay child support
- I agree that the death penalty should apply to anyone convicted of sexual molestation of a minor or for any sexual offence such as rape. I know how painful sexual molestation can be as I am a survivior of it.
- My heart and prayers go out to the family of the victim as I know how difficult it can be to deal with the murder of a child. I saw it first hand when I lived in Toronto and there was a little girl in the neighborhood that was murdered by Johnny Terceira(his was the 2nd case to use DNA evidence in Canada and the first in Ontario)
- I think that you can get the petition put online for it is not hard. I think we should all sign it and have pressure put on all levels of goverment to make sure that anyone convicted of sexual offences to minors or anything against a minor is not given a slap on the wrist but is sent straight to death row. With forensic evidence trust me it is time it was done.

God bless you, Gail. We all need to get behind Mark and what he wants to get done. It will help so many children.

Mark Lunsford is truly a man on a mission, and it's easy to see that he is sincere and intelligent and people are drawn to him. I hope that God will bless his and his supporters' efforts to change the status quo.

I am so sorry for your loss. This is such a sad thread. My Mother-in-law is enduring the loss of her daughter, it is about the worst thing that can happen to a person, I think.

According to police, Couey pleaded guilty to a 1991 felony charges of sex offense against a child, fondling a child under age 16 and lewd and lascivious conduct in Kissimmee, FL. He was convicted of indecent exposure in 1987, according to records from the sheriff's office. Police also say Couey was accused and convicted of grabbing a girl in her bedroom, placing his hand over her mouth and kissing her during a 1978 burglary.

I don't know the other specifics of his record, but I am sure it won't be too hard to find. I'll look.

Let me also add that I am sure this gentleman was let out of jail to make room for other non-violent offenders, such as pot smokers and tax evaders, who posed more of a threat to society. And I am sure he got time knocked off his sentence for "good behavior", as well as the obvious fact that he showed no propensity to re-offend. I mean, geez, his record only goes back almost thirty years.

The problem is people assume that is true - but it is not in all states, and the states are under no current obligation to share information. Read the link I posted and it will become more clear.

There are 400,000 known sex criminals watching our children throughout the U.S. This new law will help us and our state offices watch the criminals and keep them from getting early parole before they serve their full terms!!! Couey only served two of the 10 years of his sentance, he was on parole, and failed to notify officials of his whereabouts. It was too easy for him with no National Registry!

And, for those who simply say "Put these creeps to death," it is important to note that there are only 15 states that have a death penalty. The perverted criminals will move to those states and may become YOUR neighbor!

Urge your Representative to sign the National Sex Offender Registry Act into law, NOW!

I am very sad for this family. It's a shame and evil is here to stay. I am furious when even a family member takes a child as in a custody case. The child and family suffer untold emotions for a lifetime.

I have not heard how he could get this child without a cry out from her nor why the dogs could not find traces. Still a mystery? Be there! Lock the doors! ...And monitoring devices might deter a crime against a child.

Anytime...ANYTIME a person assaults a child they should go to jail right out of the chute for the rest of their life AND....they should be put in solitary confinement until they are strapped to the table and given an injectiion to end their miserable lives.

All of that combined would STILL be more humane than what they do to children. Damn them! May they rot in the burning fires of hell just like Jessica's dad said. They DO NOT deserve to walk amongst us and they DO NOT deserve anything but the dank, dark cell of solitary confinement away from all things human.
