By the same rules you uphold Kasparov is definitively a Russian, although he does not have ethnic Russian ancestors. His mother tongue is Russian, he is a Russian citizen, he belongs to the Russian culture etc etc etc. One of the staples of new Russian identity you talk about is its "melting pot" origin. Only pygmy European states like Latvia are so attentive to biological ancestry of its citizens.

You are wrong about the Brits, by the way. They do retain imperial thinking. Because of that, so many people of all ethnic origins choose to live in the UK. In ancient Rome, everybody having Roman citizenship was a Roman. Empires cannot be ethnically pure. That is one of the main reasons, by the way, why Germans could never build an empire.

Your views about Russian ethnicity would lead Russia to a disaster. Fortunately, very few people think like you (at least, in an early version of your views)

To english pronanciation I'd say it is just incorrectness which is fogiven for foreigners. But not for one who call himself of russian ancestry.

Mother tongue. First language. My mother tongue is Russian and will be Russian even if I one day learn Swahili. Although it may be said that I am not Russian, I am a descendant of Don Cossacks who, as you seem to know, do not consider themselves ethnically Russian.

Don Kazaks as any russian Kazaks are russian. Kazaks are subethnosises inside bigger russian ethnosis.
"Kazaks are not russians" was invented in 1930th abroad by foreigners and some emigrants with try to weaken USSR.
