But we had a draft years ago. My point is that we send people into war to die. That's just a fact. How do we justify it?

How do we justify it?

Fair question. We are justified in taking lives in self-defense whether as a nation or as individuals.

Now what constitutes self-defense as a nation, I won't go there. It's too convoluted and this is about Terri. I'm not all one way or another. It has to be carefully thought out.

My main justification for war seldom comes up. If your brother humans are being slaughtered in another country by some kind of tyrant, my personal belief is that it is our moral duty to try to stop it if we won't commit national suicide in the process.

Some of the other justifications for war get too fuzzy to go into here, and I could probably make arguments for and against every war we have fought.

Please don't tell me that if somebody came into your home and tried to take your child or you, ripped your phone off the wall, hid your cell phone, and you have any kind of weapon to kill the perp and the chance to do it, you wouldn't.

My personal religious beliefs color my views, which doesn't make me right, but I don't have to lay down and die because somebody doesn't like my religion. I am only allowed to do that when there is no other way out. Then I should try to accept my fate with equanimity.

You may not share my religious beliefs, and that is your right and I should still try to treat yours with respect even if you poke and prod, but I was thinking this morning that Terri happens to be a Christian (some would argue that point). Her high priest said "Whatsoever you do to the least of My people, that you do unto me." "I was hungry and you would not feed me."

My very humble opinion is that Terri is one of the least of those people and they are starving Jesus at this moment during Lent. It is Lent for both east and west now. For awhile it was only Lent for the west. The same principle would apply any day of the day of the year.

So my little thou shalt not kill last night later developed some exceptions, whether for good or for ill. There wasn't room left on the stone to carve in all the exceptions which did later materialize, I guess.

None of the above means I am right. Nor does anything you say mean you are right.
