...this is so upsetting to me when 'our Republicans' in D.C. make absolute fools of themselves in such a blatant political way, I wonder what is to become of us... Republicans can be stupid too. This ain't the first time and it won't be the last time.

I agree that she is long gone.
I think not pulling the plug is the right thing because it is public.
At this point I am content to let the dems say....LET HER DIE.
I believe her parents are selfish and frankly, unhinged due to spite against their son in law.
Whenever there is tragedy there is an attempt to find someone to blame.
Human nature at it's worst.
At this point, saving her life will not hurt her or help her, therefore, I see no point in callously saying......LET HER DIE which is essentially the dem position.

Terri's parents hate Michael more than they love their daughter and therein lies the dilemma.

My opinion.
I am a parent and a daughter.
I would not wish Terri's life on my worse enemy.
The only consolation is that Terri has no idea what is swirling around her.

"Court testimony provided by members of the Schindler family included very personal statements about their desire and intention to ensure that Theresa remain alive . . . at any and all costs"
This should be repeated for those who ask why or why not? Why doesn't he just divorce her?
An article in the paper continues after the above Schindler remarks....
"Wolfson told me that when Michael heard this, he said: "That's it. I'm never going to let that happen to her."
(Dr.)Wolfson says the Schindlers later recanted their testimony. (What? When they realized that they had a Frankenstein in the making?)
The reporter asks the court appointed guardian...."Can Terri recover?"
"Theresa's neurological tests and CT scans indicate objective measures of the persistent vegetative state," the report says. "These data indicate that Theresa's cerebral cortex is principally liquid, having shrunken due to the severe anoxic trauma experienced 13 years ago."

"I see no point in callously saying......LET HER DIE"
I bet a lot of people has similar thoughts way back when?
I see no point in letting Ms. Roe have an abortion. What's the harm? Why all the hoopla?"
The long term effects, the ramifications, the pervasiveness, the legal thinking and precedence set, go far far beyond the principals and priciples involved.

Republicans can be stupid too.Absolutely!
But this is the first time in my lifetime that they (we) have controlled the House, Senate and the WH.
It will be the last time for who knows how long. THEY are USEING the personal tragedy of one woman to (they think) play up to 'the base'!
It stinks!!!

Thank you for highlighting that. It's the primary reason, imo, that Michael doesn't just walk away.
I know that given the same set of circumstances that my husband has too much honor to let that happen to me and he would honor me more than that. Even if he'd moved on and found someone else.

I do not understand them, I'll admit. I was taught that hatred and anger at someone who harmed you would certainly end up destroying the hater.
I could never live like that.

"Adn what will happen is that the GOP will decide to not rely on them for anything - they only go there when interest coincide, and under no other circumstance." I am frankly of the belief that, if by some miracle the Democrats declared themselves to be prolife, and Hillary! came out so, at LEAST half of the "prolifers" would immediately abandon the GOP. After all, once you've got your heart's political desire, why not then go to the party offering the most goodies for "free"? Many of those same people actually LIKE government control of individuals, anyway.

Well said, Long Cut.
I have also stayed away from these threads. I'd just like to know how the Pubbies in office who have now made such fools of themselves are going to fix this?

They can't, not without ADMITTING that they got taken for a ride. The best they can do now is back off, shut up, and hope it all ends soon. Oh, and that people won't bring it up again in two years or four (fat chance).
However, I'll bet it's a cold day in the Sahara before they do any favors for the radical extremists again, and that INCLUDES judges.

The best they can do now is back off, shut up, and hope it all ends soon.It is unprecedented that a federal de novo review be mandated by the Congress, bypassing eight years of state court review.
The Democrats are making some good points here. You can bet they've polled this, and they know that a large number of Americans are listening to this debate.
