Supposedly a Press Conference coming soon.
We now know: At approx. 3:30 am. Jessica's body was located about 150 yards away from her home. Three others have been charged for aiding/hiding Couey.
I hope they answer some of my questions:
Why didn't the search dogs discover Jessica?
Who bought Couey a bus ticket?
Where is Couey's sister, supposedly he lived with her?
Why did the searchers overlook the mattress and shovel in the Couey back yard and not question the people there about those items?
Who else helped and hid Couey?
What made them suspect Couey in the first place, did it have anything to do with a suspicion/polygraph answer of the Grandmother's?
Why was Couey given (per the previous announcements that they had a "person of suspicion") two days to contact police himself - when they knew he was in Georgia?
Was the house in Georgia under substantial surveillance during that time? I worried: Couey could have fled again, killed himself...why did they wait the extra two days?
And, although I hate to know all the specifics, I do hope to learn that she was not in that house, hidden and suffering, while everyone was all around the neighborhood and searching for her.
I heard there was a presser with the father on CNN, but the one announced earlier on FOX has not taken place. I wonder when it will be.
However, I just caught the Sheriff saying "Couey is a crack-head. A piece of trash. I don't think we will ever get a straight answer from him."
They have arrested three or four people, including the half-sister of Couey, but I don't know the exact charges.
Well .. one of the charges has to be "aiding and abeting" because they bought him a bus ticket to leave the area. I would presume those who bought the perp the ticket knew what happened.
Obstruction of Justice (lying to police when interviewed), for starters.
Still investigating them for further charges.
Maybe aiding & abetting as well.
Sheriff Dawsy said, Obstruction of Justice carries 10 - 15 yrs. in prison.
I believe they questioned all the registered sex offenders in the area. Couey was the only one they couldn't find. They questioned the relative where he was supposed to be living and they lied to police and said he hadn't been there...but he had. I believe they then went back and either questioned someone else who provided with the truth, or the original person changed their story.
What I don't understand is that last week at a press conference, the police chief reported he was found in a shelter in Savannah, was questioned and released because the Savannah police said he wasn't involved in the case. Then the next thing I heard was the same police chief stating at yet another press conference that they were still looking for him.
Yes, I have heard about questioning all the sex offenders since I posted that. It is unfolding slowly. Bits are coming out. I just wish the press conference was on. Maybe it will be this afternoon, but I swear I heard them say (on FOX) coming soon. There was one on CNN I heard, but I think that was with the father.
Fox reporter saying: Under the steps, under an overhang at the back door of Couey's sister's house is where Couey placed Jessica. His sister is the one who bought him the bus ticket to get out of the state. She has been held and charged. Couey is in jail, on suicide watch. He has waived his rights, and can be extradited now. I suspect that after Couey is brought to Florida is when we will have the Press Conference. I am sorry if I jumped the gun. Maybe I was not fully awake when I heard (or thought) I heard that on FOX this morning.
She was under the steps the entire time?
Yes she was....the POS must have killed her right away because the police were all over the area the next morning...
I guess that is why there were no signs on the grounds where all the hundreds of people had tramped and searched. It was well covered, no fault of anyone not seeing some freshly dug up ground. If he dug under the steps you think his sister would have been suspicious immediately.
And, if she was, the $hit (excuse me, but I am so upset) instead helped him to get out of town by buying him a bus ticket. Would have served her better to turn him in and claim the reward money. Dumb bunny. Disgusting piece of humanity.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but it would be at least some small comfort to know she was killed quickly rather than held for days and violated and hurt and frightened.
But wouldn't the dog have found her?
Man, this is HORRIBLE; just think about that poor family now knowing she was within eyeshot all this time.
Did you hear he, the suspect, told the sister he committed a crime. She also lied to the police that he was staying there. I hope they try her as an accessory to murder.
I just read on the other thread that in Florida that it's 15 years for aiding and abetting; I hope that's true and I hope they prosecute them to the full extent of the law.
He said he had committed a crime? Gee, I wonder what she thought he did?
Other than it had rained so heavily in the area and maybe it hindered the search dogs, I still wonder why the dogs never picked up her scent. But I don't know enough about how they "work," but I do recall them leading searchers to bodies days after 9-11, and after rain, etc. That point puzzles me.
There was a shovel and mattress also in the yard, that was announced that was discovered yesterday. I think, being just me, that if I saw a shovel in anyone's yard in the area, I would have gone to the door and asked "why???" It is not planting season there yet. There is no snow. Why a shovel out in the yard - and a mattress???
I know what you mean....what that poor baby suffered...I don't even want to think about it...with her knowing her own house was just across the street...
"Gee, I wonder what she thought he did?"
Especially considering he had a record as a sex offender and did almost the exact same thing prior... and add to the fact that everyone knew the girl was missing.
What's sad is I heard the family never locked their door and that was how he got in the house and took her.
I've got two shovels in my backyard. My brother in law keeps promising me he's going to come and dig my weeds out.
I too can't understand how the dogs missed it....he only took her a little over 100 yds....
