I think that Mr. Schiavo turned down an offer of a substantial sum of money a few days ago. It doesn't seem as if money is the motivating factor here.
One of the things that bothers me about all this is the choice to withhold nutrition to induce death, which I should think would be a rather lengthy process. If folks are willing to accept responsibility for inducing her death, why would they not accept a manner of death (e.g., an overdose of opiates) that might be somewhat quicker? Have they convinced themselves that by withholding nutrition they are not playing an active role in her death? Isn't that a bit delusional?
Well actually he'd be in a world of legal hurt if he dropped his ball at such an offer. He knows that even if the Schindlers settle for peace, tens of thousands who want his head on a post will not.
BINGO.
The death camps in Germany were set up so that most of the people weren't killed by anyone in particular. Someone marched the people into the "showers", someone else dropped gas into them without having seen anyone go in (so they wouldn't have to think about the people in there). Someone else took the dead bodies out (so the people marching the victims in never would never see what happened to them).
It would seem that the belief that there is no insurance, like the belief that Michael Schiavo was offered $10M to walk away, like the belief that Terri had a chemical imbalance, like the belief that she said she'd rather be dead than disabled as she is today, like the belief that Michael loves Terri and is fighting for her rights...it would seem that these and many other notions are based solely on Michael Schiavo's assertions. (And those of his weird, mind-over-aircraft attorney.)
There's no talking to people who consider Michael Schiavo credible, so I'll just stop here.
