Socratic:

The sentence is "death", or put another way, the sentence which her legal guardian is imposing on her based on her alleged wish. Also, your analogy to political dissidents is obviously a hyperbole.

DJ:

Yes, a feeding tube. An artificial, life-prolonging device which may be legally removed as per the judge's orders.

Recovering_Democrat:

You've been reported for abuse. If you can't behave like an adult, then don't expect to be treated like one. The law doesn't and shouldn't care about what anyone but the legal guardian has to say on the subject. You can't just flout the law when it flies in the face of your personal beliefs.

I'm amazed at the number of people who believe starvation of another human being is acceptable.

In which case blacks should still not be sitting in the front of the bus, and the Boston Tea Party should never have happened.

Food and water have indeed been classified as medical treatment, even when given by spoonfeeding, in the courts.

If that doesn't frighten you, then you are really in need of a good history lesson.

Tell me would you want a loved one of yours to die a slow agonizing death over some 8 days by starvation?
This is what this Judge has condemned Terri Schiavo to, prisoners killed by the state are given a better choice of death by lethal injection. Perhaps you would more approve of this for a loved one. Would you make the injection?
No one and I mean no one knows exactly what kind of shape Terri Schiavo is in and no healthy young woman of 25 is even thinking of a living will or worrying about being a in situation like this.
Also tell me just what is wrong with letting Terri's family take her and carrying for her if that is what they want to do?
Also have you really asked yourself any hard questions about why Michael Schiavo is so determined to have this woman die? Have you considered the possibility that he may have put her where she is and is a criminal?
This guy has been offered vast sums of money to walk away and divorce this woman and let her family care for her.
Yet he has refused, Why?
Why not divorce her let her family have her and he can get on with his life with his girl friend and his two kids?
The more questions you ask the deeper the mystery and motivations. Ponder on some of these things and look into your own soul and see what answers you find.

You have just proven your ignorance of the law.

The judge flouted the law by not taking all the testimony in to judge the preponderance of evidence. He found excuses for ignoring anything that might be considered proof Terri is aware.

The law being used by the judge states that to be PROVEN PVS, they must prove Terri is NOT AWARE.

I have seen no proof, only conclusions of doctors who spent an hour or less examining Terri. The Doctor who was taking care of her, her personal physician, was asked by the court to testify, to lay out the groundwork for the other doctors. He did, and was then ruled irrelevant.

That does not, on any planet, make sense.
