NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Teens who pledge to remain virgins until marriage are more likely to take chances with other kinds of sex that increase the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, a study of 12,000 adolescents suggests.
The report by Yale and Columbia University researchers could help explain their earlier findings that teens who pledged abstinence are just as likely to have STDs as their peers. The latest study, published in the April issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health, found that teens pledging virginity until marriage are more likely to have oral and anal sex than other teens who have not had intercourse. That behavior, however, "puts you at risk," said Hannah Brueckner, assistant professor of sociology at Yale and one of the study's authors

Well, this is a new tack.
What a bunch of liberal BS.
When I read the headline I thought it was going to be about doing bad things with appliances!
what, not bad vision?
I don't buy this for a second. Prudes are just as likely to have STD's as sluts? No way.
I smell a DU plant.
ping to self for later pingout.
Un'friggin beliveable...
Welcome to FR. I'm not buyin' it.....
What about those who pledged chastity?
LOL. That too. And totally understandable when one considers where the people suggesting this have their heads placed.
dude, which "heads?"

don't know about that.....read another study awhile back that said the same thing.....the stats don't bear out why this occurs.....just like when I was young and told my parents I wouldn't go out and drink.......right???? and I grew up in a very Christian home but when you're young peers, hormones, whatever pull you in alot of different directions........don't put much faith though in any casual relationship
Pledging abstinence isn't the same as remaining abstinent.
Signing some sort of silly abstinence pledge does nothing to actually prevent kids from having sex, IMO.
Not from where I stand....
Go ahead, waiting for the next shot.
I don't want to start a flame war, but expecting a human being to be 100% chaste until they're married is getting a little unreasonable.
Consider the average age for marriage is now 26 or so.
The sort that sit atop the spinal column :)
