Have you considered that maybe Terri wants to live PERIOD?! To be given the chance to be able to feed herself so she wouldn't have to depend on this tube?
Would you people want to live like Terri rest of your life? I sure would not.
This isn't about what YOU or what anyone else wants. Is this want TERRI wants?
The question revolves aroung Terri's wishes - and we DO NOT KNOW THEM - so we must err on the side of life. A casual remark (if it ever happened) to her husband can not be the basis for her death.
I'm sorry about your Uncle but it was a terminal cancer case. Terri has never had the chance to be rehabilitated - maybe if she had she could speak for herself. She is not terminal - she can not feed herself - that is not a reason to die.
Are you aware that her husband had denied her treatment that may have improved her condition? Do you know that she has told family and friends that she did not approve of removeing life support from coma victims. Did you know that there is still a chance with re-hab that she can improve - that case is just what MS claimed when he won 1 million plus on her behalf 2 months prior to denying her proper medical treatments.
I am so tired of people projecting themselves into her life. And yes ask me - today I would like the chance to heal with the money provided to do so. If not you, thats personal. She said she did.
Would I want my spouse -- who CHEATED on me and had two illegitimate children -- to decide whether I lived or died?
Would I want the same person who was too COWARDLY to divorce me to decide my fate?
Would I want the same individual who may have ABUSED me to starve me to death?
Would I want the same traitorous spouse to spend thoudsands of dollars won in a malpractice lawsuit on HIS OWN BEHALF in my case to make a life or death decision for me?
There are bigger questions here that Starvin' Greer doesn't want answered.
You know, I have a collection of little ceramic dishes from the "turn of the century". They look like little china Alladin's lamps with a long spout and an handle. I use them to dispense pancake syrup, but I enjoy asking my guests what they think they were originally intended to do.
No one can ever guess their original purpose. Well in the 1850s and 1900s, and probably long before, they were called "invalid feeders" and they were used to give liquid food (soup, broth, etc.) to people who could not eat normally because they were too sick, too weak, or had no teeth. Every home had one, and many china companies made them to match the regular dishes.
They are a lot like a feeding tube, if you think about it, except they would require a nurse to dispense the food because someone would have to hold the person's head up while you carefully inserted the spout into the the patient's mouth. They were common in any home where an elderly relative lived.
Of course you don't see them any more because you don't see the elderly, or incapacitated anymore. We just kill them when their insurance expires nowadays. /sarcasm
Go figure.
This Michael Schiavo exemplifies selfishness: Unconsciously he broadcasts this in his speech patterns when he says things like "I want to get this behind me". Nothing about Terri. It's all about "me", and moving on with "my" life.
You know, I don't think there is any question that nobody would WANT to live like Terri is living. The issue is, unfortunately, she has found herself in this situation with no living will.
The issue becomes that we, as a civilized society should be saying that if we have ANY doubt, and we DON"T REALLY KNOW, as to how much consciousness is there, we HAVE to decide in favor of life.
She is not terminally ill. She is mentally incapacitated and can no longer eat or speak for herself.
Should the doctor have been required to say "Hey Let's do more" when there was no chance of recovery??
If you or your relative was diagnosed with a terminal illness and chose to live without medical treatment, would it then be ok to expedite your impending death by not allowin you nourishment. No, you would be provided nourishment until your body failed you DUE TO THE DISEASE.
Terri is not terminally ill, she is mentally incapacitated.
There are too many questions .. we have to decide in favor of life.
Have a living will, people.
>Have you people considered that maybe Terri does not want to live like this???
Would you people want to live like Terri rest of your life? I sure would not.<
I don't think that anyone here "wants" to live like Terri. The difference is, some here believe that God never promised anyone on Earth an easy ride. If you end up in a state like Terri, then you have to truly give yourself over to God, who will not give you more than you can bear.
Look at this post (the URL from where it came is also below) and I think you can get a feel for Terri's desires:
