Democratic Congressman Waxman issued a statement claiming that these subpoenas are unenforceable:

These subpoenas are unenforceable. A committee subpoena must be used to gather information. But these subpoenas are dictating the medical care that Ms. Schiavo receives. Congress has no authority to use subpoenas to tell doctors what treatment they can and cannot provide to any individual under their care.
I think Waxman is wrong, but I will have to wait until this issue hits federal court, all the way to the SCOTUS.

You're probably right about the original intent of the US Constitution, but most federal judges are always willing to grab more power from the states, private entities and individuals.

You guys definitely should make a law about it. It´s a horrible situation for the Schiavo family, for the nation and not at last for Terri Schiavos body & soul.
