Conn. Republican pled guilty to accepting $100,000 in favors. Former Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland, seen in this 2003 photo, faces sentencing on a corruption charge on Friday. NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Once one of the nation’s brightest political stars, former Gov. John G. Rowland will try to convince a federal judge that he deserves leniency despite selling access to his office for personal gain.

Rowland, 47, is expected to address the judge Friday before he is sentenced on a corruption charge. He pleaded guilty in December, admitting he accepted more than $100,000 in chartered trips to Las Vegas, Vermont vacations and repairs to his lakeside cottage...

I hope they throw the book at this Black Eye. If Martha Stewart get 6 Months this guy should get 5 years - If there is any proportionality.

There is no proportionality. A punk robs a gas station for $200 will get 20 years. A homey gets busted with 1 rock of crack will do more time than Rowland. It's a nice & cozy notion, but sentencing isn't proportional to the crime, typically

Rowland got railroaded. When the state tax collections went into the crapper he instituted a "newspaper tax" on newspapers, guess what? they went after him with a vengeance, they got him. The first tax to go when he resigned? the newspaper tax.

Are you saying he didn't betray his trust? That he's not guilty? Just because he WAS a Republican doesn't mean he's not guilty. This POS deserves the max IMO. And please, don't give me the old refrain 'Every one does it - He was singled out because he's a Rep' reason to excuse him.

Heck, he's probably only being sentenced for 1/10 of what he actually did.

He sold state contracts for personal gain.

He stole money from CT taxpayers.

Oh please. The man was a crooked politican. He just happened to get caught.

The man has made $15,000 a month since his resignation. He has a "friend" paying college tuition for two of his kids. They're renting a home in West Hartford with a market value of $370K. Please, they're not living in a mobile home in Bridgeport and subsisting food stamps. The Rowlands' current lifestyle may be a step down for them, but would be the envy of many of us in Connecticut who actually work for a living.

I have no pity for him.

Rowland was elected and re-elected with an overwhelming majority of the votes. Driven from office by a gleeful liberal press. Rowland cut taxes, opposed gay marriage, started the redevelopment of Hartford. I'll take a filthy, lying politician like Rowland ANYDAY over the tax raising, gay loving, anti business politicians now in charge of CT.

And you really think that the politicians in charge now are as clean as the wind driven snow????? PLEASE........

I live in Connecticut and this is the first time I've heard he's making $15,000/month. I didn't even know he had a job. Cite your source please. Also, the house he is living in is a friend's and he is not paying any rent. If you have proof, please cite your source because that is also news to me. Finally, the friend you say is paying college tuition for him has pledged $10K per kid/year. That's a big difference between "paying college tuition for two of his kids". I'm not a big fan of Rowland but I think you should get your facts straight.

This information is from the memo that the feds released to Judge Dorsey. He recieves $5K per month plus expenses from Klewin Building Co. (the developers at Foxwoods) for business development work. And he has a $10K per month contract with the National Science Center Foundation to consult on selling educational software to other states. There was some debate as to whether the NSCF contract expired at the end of February but apparently it did not.

They pay a reduced rent on the West Hartford home according to Rowland's own lawyers (as reported in the Courant). And it is owned by one of his friends.

I went to a state school here in Connecticut and my tuition was $10K per year, so had someone been paying for me it WOULD have been "paid for." Of course I somehow doubt Rowland's kids would be so pedestrian as to attend a state university.

Rowland got a year at the sentencing, which I think is fair.
