I hunt with a Remington 700 BDL 30-06 left hand. Beautiful, wonderful companion in the field. My fave.
Also like the 870 Wingmaster deer barrel. Left hand too, of course.

I've always meant to get one, never actually got to it. I was thinking of a .270. What sort of optics do you have sitting on top?

Bushnell 3x9. Perfectly adequate for me.
Don't have a .270; imagine there's less kick than the '06. A day of target shooting leaves some nasty bruises.
On the 870, it's just the iron of course.
God Bless the Remington Arms company for realizing some of us shoot the "other way."

that sounds like something an old college roommate of mine would say. He was/is a Marine, was going through OCS during the summers while in school during the rest of the year. Last I heard he was going "somewhere overseas" but he didnt say where. Hinted at the middle east- specifically Afghanistan.

and any I missed,I never served,my oldest brother was a Marine Reserve tanker in Desert Storm,4th Tank Battalion,Bravo Company - Yakima, WA.
Between November 1990 and January 1991, 4th Tank Battalion was mobilized in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Elements of the battalion were "in country" and combat ready within 32 days of activation. During the Gulf War mobilization, the 4th Tank Battalion, a United States Marine Corps Reserve unit in the 4th Marine Division, successfully transitioned from the M-60 to the M1-A1 Main Battle Tank in just 45 days. The battalion trained, shot and qualified, then deployed to the Gulf where it fought alongside its active Marine Corps counterparts. Indeed, one of its companies knocked out 35 of 36 Iraqi tanks in less than five minutes.
That was Bravo Company.
Yeah,I'm bragging.
He's retired now.
I thank you for your service.

I shoot a Remington 700 .30-06 as well. I just inherited (sadly) a 700 in .270 from my wife's step-father, who passed away last year. I have not shot it yet, but it was his favorite gun. I love my .30-06, though it does kick my runt arse like a mule!

" He and his spotter occupied that position well knowing they were extremely vulnerable to enemy fire. "I didn't really think about it at the time," said Reichert. "But when we heard the 50 cal rounds impacting the oil tank we took what little cover there was.""
Where are the bad guys getting their 50's from?
There are several possibilities, the best ones European. And of course, they could have a piece of captured US equipment.
Here's a couple of likely suspects: Top, a Croation Manda. The bottom happens to be a .338 Lapua Mag, but a .50 version is certainly possible.

Thank you, Back when, I remember thinking, having Joined the Marine Corps was the wrong solution as a way to get away from a bad stepfather. But I had enlisted and it was too Late Now. Internally we referred to it as " being in the Suck", But after I got out, the feeling I had, of having been a Marine, well it never leaves you. It was the Best thing I've ever done. It shaped my life, for good or bad, but mostly good.
Of all the young men who went before me, and all those after, the Bond of brotherhood, of being a Marine is like no other.
Simper Fi, has a meaning beyond words, that only a Marine knows.
Thanks for the post about your brother!
