Yes. It should be noted that The Spectator is not a normal newspaper by any means. It is a weekly, and is more concerned with opinion pieces than 'news'. He was also Shadow Minister for the Arts for a while. It has a very small readership, but that readership includes pretty much every very influential person in the U.K.
He was editor for a while before running for Parliament, it is thought that Lord Black (who then owned the Speccie) was none too chuffed at him running. He is also a unique figure, he has an enormous mop of blond hair and when appearing on television always appears to be completely lost and bemused - yet he is actually very clever and is easily one of the better brains in the Commons.
