Refer to post #10

If they can't get jobs or benefits they will have no choice but to go back to Mexico.
$3 a day in Mexico beats the heck out of $0 a day and being arrested in the U.S.

"There are 200,000 armed agents of the FedGov of various species. And 2000 are NOT available to be transferred to Border Patrol?"

=============================

You are aware are you not that the President was so concerned about our border control problem that he temporarily reassigned over 2,000 of our border patrol agents - TO IRAQ!

(Talk about taking care of bidness.)

Every BP agent who went to Iraq volunteered to go. No one was "reassigned" but why let facts get in the way of your Bush hatred.

IMHO, this is the most pressing issue on the future of our nation in our lifetime (even beyond 9/11).

Senator Hutchison is to be commended - I'm glad she had the fortitude to stand up and be counted.

Tagline.

The fact is that they went in the first place while an invasion was occurring on their own territory (at the direction of the president.)

I believe that the Border Patrol and Customs should be integrated into the Homeland Security Admin.

The already are. The both are part of CBP Customs and Border Protection which is part of DHS.

They already are and some say that's part of the problem.

"The administration cannot hide the border cut anymore!!!!"

Just a thought, but while some programs were scaled back, some were increased such as the use of technology to secure the borders.

I agree, but don't think you put it high enough on the priority list! I think it should be funded right along with national security/defense - after all, in the age of terrorism, isn't protecting the borders just as important a job as the rest of our national defense?

Put it above funding all government handout programs. Put it above paying congressional salaries!

It just might have something to do with the thousands of faxes she has been getting from numbersusa.com and the fact that she is thinking about running for Govenor. She has been against border control until here recently.

Kay Bailey Hutchison is contemplating running for Governor of
Texas.

Yes, our current GOP Governor is up for re-election next year.
Hutchison is thinking of challenging him in the primary.

I wonder why she hasn't brought this up before?

I don't think Ron Kirk is too interested in another electoral whuppin like he received in 2002. He did his duty that year as a good soldier. I suspect he will spend the next few years accumulating income from his law practice and hope for a Federal appointment in 2009 or 2010 should his party recapture the White House.

My ideal in many respects would be Ron Paul, except for his pacifistic foreign policy. However, he is unelectable on a statewide basis. Sam Johnson of Plano would be a good choice, though there are health and age issues. He is electable, however.
