Speaking of Scott Peterson, I must admit I am not following this case closely, but, I understand that there was no eye witness or uncontroversial solid evidence, or confession that he committed the crime. To this end, I am unable to understand how 1)he was found guilty, and 2)he was sentenced to death rather than life in prison.

My gut feeling is impression by the public, and partiality towards punishing a guy who had an affair clouds the reality of what took place. A woman ran over her husband with her car BECAUSE he had an affair was treated like a hero by our media. It is obvious that the vindictive hate of our culture for men who have affairs is on equal footing with Nazis.

Fortunately for us, "gut feelings" are not the basis for jury verdicts. There was evidence plus some to spare proving beyond any doubt, let alone a reasonable doubt, that Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife.
