Thank you for your reply! That is one view, the Aristotlean mathematics view - but there is another view, the Platonist view. For Lurkers: under the Aristotle view, the mathematician invents the math - under the Plato view, the mathematician discovers the math, e.g. pi exists and was only discovered.

That was Goedel's idea on the subject. He was the best logician since Aristotle. Once you have Incompleteness in your current reading library you will be a happy camper. Not that you aren't already happy, in which case you will be even happier.
