I don't know if it is so much joy as black humor. I wish that Rachel Corrie had not died. It was an unfortunate accident. But black humor is another matter altogether.
I agree; black humor is a way to deal with the unthinkable. And it is unthinkable to imagine a human being run over by a bulldozer. Just as it is unthinkable that a human being would strap plastique to themselves and incinerate dozens of other people. I am not excusing her. Actions have consequences, as I try to tell my children. The penalty for sin is death. But we all sin, and in different orders of magnitude. I think it is not impossible to recognize her sinfulness and yet feel compassion for how lost she was. That's all.
