A Long Island honor student filed a federal lawsuit yesterday, claiming an NYPD detective falsely arrested him during last summer's Republican National Convention........
Benjamin Traslavina, 17, a senior at Malverne HS, where he is the school's newspaper editor, claims.......he was falsely arrested by Detective Joseph Sikorski on Sept. 1, 2004, while attending the convention at Madison Square Garden.
A participant in the RNC's "youth day" activities as a member of the Junior Statesman Foundation Symposium, Traslavina was arrested when he started taking photos of a skirmish between convention security personnel and the AIDS activist group ACT-UP, said his lawyer, Daniel Perez.
The teen was held in custody for a total of 28 hours before being released on his own recognizance
In December, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office filed a motion to dismiss the felony riot charges against him.

Just another day in the Big Sh*tty - - -
Merely because the student was an editor doesn't mean he is a real member of the media, does it? And further, just because he is at a public event where he is rightfully present doesn't mean that he can photograph one of our fine officers arresting another citizen does it?
It was just an Act-Up member, right? So fugettaboutit, eh!
The lead city in the state of the HillaBeast certainly wouldn't allow such asocial behavior, would it?

Troll in the dungeon! Thought you ought to know...
My original reaction to the story was a resounded - Meh. But then I read your post and was simply horrified.
What did he do wrong? Is it now illegal to take pics of a cop arresting someone?
