The president and Secretary Rice say that Bolton will go to New York to lead an effort to reform the place before it is too late. Bolton is one of the very few people who might be able to handle or even understand the assignment.

I doubt that anybody at the UN believes that the President or Bolton are interested in saving the UN, so why should they accept their reforms?

They can accept the reforms, or they can take the UN to another country and we will withdraw our financial support. These are their choices, and there is very little wiggle room. Personally I think it's the biggest bunch of crooks and thieves ever assembled in one place. I wish they would force our hand, but they aren't that stupid. They know the gravy train goes away if we pull out. They will reform, and then they will figure out new ways to steal the money of other nations just like they did in the case of Iraq.
