The lesson that both debaters desperately need to learn is that the very essence of debate is objectivity. .....maybe 50 years ago this was true

sometimes you have to call a Horney Hick a horney hick.....(I was born in West Virginia ---- maybe I am a horney hick too)

I suspect that this author is writing from her heart, and is not writing for an audience, because I don't think she knows who her audience is anymore. I guess I am sorry that she is dissapointed or disillusioned. Her vision of partisian debate is way naive. I guess I am sorry to see her pristine idealism shattered

Colter is a joke. She probably did lose.

She's like our version of Michael Moore: Funny, but worthless.

"However, while the debate was feisty and witty, I was left with an overall disturbing sense of deep hatred and political regression."

Ashley Samelson obviously is quite taken aback in her naivete by seeing for the first time in decades a conservative viewpoint expressed in full battle-dress against the usual liberal mindset that is so deeply ensconced in universities.

Maybe she'll also learn that you can't really trust your feelings, you must learn to exercise logic in political reasoning.

Yes, I'm sure that this girl was a conservative republican fron the start, and hearing Ann Coulter has let her "see the light."

Actually, from this report, Ann is being true to form... To paraphrase her from an interview, "if you don't leave liberals sputtering in rage, you're not doing your job!"

"Beinart, editor of The New Republic(liberal), relied on many facts, figures and statistics...."

Ms. Samelson knows this to be true because.....??????

"Objectivity is the only key to truth."

I must disagree. The key to truth begins with honesty. It would appear to me that Ms. Samelson has lost her keys, if she ever had them to begin with.

"Ashley Samelson is a sophomore who has yet to declare a major."

But of course she has. Ms. Samelson majors in Abeyance.

Ashley

Don't let it bother you, Ashley. People WILL say mean things about the former 'President' you love so much. He WAS a scoundrel. He still is. This is me saying something critical about ole 'Soldier Willie', Ashley - and if you remember his 'soldiering' defense at one point. Truth will out. And an unpleasant man may have unpleasant things said of him. It can happen, Ashley. Of course, one attempting to be productive and courageous may have much the same falsely said of him - witness the slanders against President Bush. Am I right, Ashley?

In response to Beinart's factual discussion of Bill Clinton's presidency and what made it so great, she opened with a statement referring to Clinton as a "horny hick."

Doesn't sound like she was a Republican from 1993 to 2001.

"...she opened with a statement referring to Clinton as a "horny hick." Such spiteful and subjective comments brought laughter from the audience but did nothing to strengthen her opposing argument"

I don't see what is so "subjective" about that statement. Seems to me to be plenty of objective, verifiable evidence for the truth of it.

Ashley Samelson may not have yet declared a major, but she has clearly declared herself a nitwit!

"Afterwards, I overheard a girl say that "people like her [Coulter] should not be allowed to write books," and the comment was received with emphatic agreement."

This statement proves to me whom won the debate.

It is a natural response from people on the left to use force against opposing views.

Bill Clinton was a horny hick, but I've been saying for a while that Coulter is not healthy for conservatism.

I no longer consider myself a Republican, or even a conservative. From this day forward I choose the path of true progress. Consider me an objectivist.

Ashley Samelson is a sophomore who has yet to declare a major.

..or a core set of beliefs.
