"Slow Ride" has one of the best bass riffs ever and it's SOOOOO fun to play.
I was in a classic rock cover band in the early 90's called "Dolly Dagger" that we named after a song covered by Jimi Hendrix, but because of the similarity of names people always thought we were a Molly Hatchet tribute band and got mad when we only knew how to play "Slow Ride".

Flirtin' With Disasater was my teenaged anthem. Sad to hear of his passing. Growing up in rural NC in the late 70's and early 80's, you absolutely had to have a Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot, Nantucket, and Skynyrd tape (eight track, or cassette if you were uppity). If you had anything less than those aforementioned tapes, you were branded by that most dreaded of labels: "Boy, you ain't from shit!".

I look forward to classic rock stations playing a lot of Molly Hatchet over the next few days.

Were the quotation marks really necessary in the thread title, under the circumstances?
If you have such disdain for the man, why did you bother posting his obituary at all?

Which brings to mind the Ray Steven song
Eric the Awful about the Viking by that name who made a living by posing for Molly Hatchet album covers.
Eric the Awful, the brutal and tenacious,
As sutle as a chainsaw, lacking all the social graces...
He heard the corus going through his mind.

They played PB Scotts in Blowing Rock NC after their first album. They only knew their own material. They played the album ending with the vocal part of Dreams. For an encore, they played the rest of Dreams. They even tried to pick a fight.
A wannabe band hanging on the shirttails of Skynard and the Outlaws. Brown had a GREAT voice for Southern R&R. He was really heavy though.

Great memories listening to Molly Hatchet.
On May 18th, 1990 My ship pulled into Fort Lauderdale for a port visit. I saw Molly Hatchet that night at "Summer's On The Beach". An amazing show at a little hole in the wall bar.
I love the Allman Brothers too, but I like Molly Hatchet's version of "Dreams" better.
God Bless you, Danny.

Thats really too bad. I was a big-time Hatchet fan.
Bruce Crump, the original drummer for the group, successfully recovered from throat cancer treatment last year, and we held a benefit for him here in Richmond, VA. He lives in one of the Richmond suburbs has become a solid Christian and is active in a local church and a personal friend of one of my co-workers.

My son is currently practicing Joseph ("Papa") Haydn's Concerto in D Major for piano. It seems like only yesterday when Joseph was singing with the Vienna boys choir...

people always thought we were a Molly Hatchet tribute band and got mad when we only knew how to play "Slow Ride".Might that be because "Slow Ride" was by Foghat? ;-)
