This is about the calm, cool and very collected Ashley Smith under extremely dangerous circumstances that could have cost her life. It's a given he is a cold blooded killer and will be put away..so what's left to talk about on his end. No one disputes that fact.

The other story is how Ashley Smith could get this "cold blooded quadruple killer" to put down his gun. Something trained professionals could not do. She is a story within a story. She saved her own life and may have saved the lives of many others. Smith is a hero. Therefore, stories are written about heroes..deservingly so.

After reading all the armchair quarterbacking going on here and the snide putdowns of Ashley Smith by those who certainly would have said or done it better - some are even trying to dredge up her past and why her daughter was not with her, blah blah - I find someone who says it like it truly is. She had to be terrified the whole time, but her need to survive led her to humanize him. He had to be exausted from what he did, with no sleep and the horror he knew he did. she knew that, and had no other choice but to subdue him to make time to get out of there.
