Hazmat Scare Near Pentagon

Tests Negative After Sensor Indicates Possible Anthrax At Mail Facility

POSTED: 2:48 pm EST March 14, 2005

WASHINGTON -- There was a scare Monday at a mail facility near the Pentagon.

As workers were sorting through the mail Monday morning, a sensor went off, indicating the possible presence of anthrax. About 150 people working at the remote delivery facility were quickly evacuated to another part of the building.

A hazardous materials team was called in to conduct at least eight tests inside the facility. Each test came back negative.

After several hours, workers were allowed to return.
