Mailroom closed, evacuated while hazmat team investigates

WASHINGTON - A hazardous materials team investigated an alarm Monday that was triggered by sensors that detected the presence of chemical or biological agents at the Pentagon's mail delivery building, a military spokesman said.

Officials evacuated and shut down the facility, which is in a separate building on the northwest side of the Pentagon grounds, shortly after the sensors were triggered around 10:30 a.m. ET, spokesman Glenn Flood said.

Somebody may have eaten a couple of breakfast burritos? That can produce toxic gases. I know that from personal experience.

Hazmat Scare Near Pentagon

Tests Negative After Sensor Indicates Possible Anthrax At Mail Facility

POSTED: 2:48 pm EST March 14, 2005

WASHINGTON -- There was a scare Monday at a mail facility near the Pentagon.

As workers were sorting through the mail Monday morning, a sensor went off, indicating the possible presence of anthrax. About 150 people working at the remote delivery facility were quickly evacuated to another part of the building.

A hazardous materials team was called in to conduct at least eight tests inside the facility. Each test came back negative.

After several hours, workers were allowed to return.

"Somebody may have eaten a couple of breakfast burritos? That can produce toxic gases."

We just knew terrorism was going to come in across the southern border.
