So what is it that keeps Atlanta corrupt? I don't know Atlanta history far back. Was Charlie Brown's administration corrupt? Sam Massell's admin?

I'd like to tiptoe around the racist card, because I am a white Southerner who doesn't want to be accused of being racist, but I've just got to wonder: Did Atlanta get corrupt when the black Atlantans got hold of the city?

IMHO, Atlanta has been ideal ground for corruption all these years because of the one-dimensiaonal (READ: demoRAT) state legislature since reconstruction. Atlanta has been able to suck off state resources unimpeded and just take what it wanted. The airport is a great example. How in the hell should the freaking city be allowed to use Hartsfield-Jackson-Jones-Smith-Shakur airport as a private cookie jar for it's executive members. Even Shirley Jackson, the current Mayor, who seems much cleaner and more competent than anyone in that office in years has her hands in it. The "Georgia Dome" is another excellent example of Atlanta raiding the state coffers for its sole benefit.

Get south of Macon and anyone will tell you that there are two Georgias -- Atlanta and the rest of Georgia.

Oh, and no, I don't think race really has anything to do with Atlanta's unique corruption other than there are black folks in higher offices at the moment so their circle of friends obviously benefit. It all trickles down from there. When crackers were in control the patronage went to crackers.
