Brian G. Nichols: Camera rolled during attack
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 3/14/05 | YoungBlackRepublican

Posted on 03/14/2005 8:48:17 AM PST by YoungBlackRepublican

A video camera, which is supposed to be monitored by two guards in a command post, shows the two arriving in the holding area between two courtrooms, according to a law enforcement official who viewed the tape.

The video shows Hall guiding Nichols, whose hands are still handcuffed behind his back, face-first into one of two open cells.

Hall releases one cuff and turns Nichols around to unhook the remaining cuff, which is dangling from his wrist. She uncuffs him so he can change from a jail jumpsuit into street clothes.

The muscular, 33-year-old Nichols then lunges at Hall, knocking the petite, 51-year-old woman backward into another cell. Both disappear from camera view because having a camera inside the actual holding cells is prohibited for privacy reasons. Two to three minutes later, Nichols emerges from the cell, holding Hall's gun belt and police radio. He picks up her keys from the floor and locks her inside the cell. Nichols then enters the empty cell.

A couple of minutes later, he emerges dressed in civilian clothes. He locks the door behind him and saunters calmly out of the holding area, carrying the gun belt, according to the law enforcement official who viewed the tape. Nichols appears to know which key to use to unlock the holding area door and enters a vacant courtroom on the eighth floor.

This is true. So you're saying that his dirty laundry has basically been sanitized in the public mind.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I think it says a lot about the power of exposure.

I hope this Atlanta monkey business puts an end to those PC TV shows where tiny women kick the sh*t out of huge men.

Not going to happen. Hollywood knows male audiences love the fantasy of violence and babes all in one package. Maybe the dykes do too.

Bernie Kerik needs to be hired...

Unfortunately, someone went to a great deal of trouble to discredit Bernie, and his career in law enforcement is probably over. (Also unforunately, there was ammunition in his background that made it possible for him to be discredited, sigh.)

Rudy allowed Bratton to be successful.

Kerik working for Mayor Blooming-idiot would be useless.

Bratton not accomplishing anything in LA thanks to the weak Mayor.

I don't know for sure about how other people really think about these things. I'm just thinking of Bill Bennett's book The Death of Outrage.

It seems that what used to be scandalous no longer is and so we've moved down a notch. Michael Jackson's pedophilia isn't even scandalous anymore. He's actually celebrated in some quarters.

I'm as square as they come, but I don't think that Kerik's affair or affairs would prevent him from doing a good job training police officers. But I could probably be convinced I'm wrong :-)

Chief Wiggems and staff meeting to agree on excuses for why taxpayers need to fund four, not two people to monitor the video, next. These two had too much to do, for a shorthanded staff. We need four people (not) to watch the video.

How many other large cities are like this?

All of the ones run by Democrats and Republicans.

This process has been in place forever. The defendant in ALL cases must be dressed in a suit or other appropriate CONSERVATIVE attire.

No T shirts, cutoffs, or other street type clothing.

>>>Where were the people who were SUPPOSE to be monitoring the video!!!!!!!!!! <<<

The real question is who was the fool that assigned a 50+ year old 5'2" grandmother to guard anyone....all by herself?

Assigning guards to watch television to see the event is far less effective than assigning those guards to backup the grandmother on site!

Had he been under proper guard, no one would have been hurt.

"Why do you think race would make a difference? They simply don't want to prejudice a jury by having the defendant in handcuffs and/or shackled. That's standard procedure in most courtrooms. Again, if a defendant was able to post bond, he or she would not be cuffed."

It doesn't make a difference. I had confused preliminary hearings and or arraignments, where suspects are sometimes shackled together or maybe handcuffed, with presenting the suspect before a jury. I stand corrected.

Oh, I understand. Thanks for that information and yes, without a strong Mayor, it doesn't matter who they hire at the PD.

I'm sighing right along with you. I really thought and still do in the main, that he's a terrific guy with great talent and passion for law enforcement.

It's amazing the leftists were apologists for Clinton who pushed for and signed sexual harrassment in the workplace legislation which he then violated with a vulnerable, young girl and then lied under oath about but those same people have the long knives out for Kerik.

The rank hypocrisy is a little much.

Assigning guards to watch television

Which of course were not there. However, given the performance of these buffons, I am not sure two-three more minutes would have mattered anyway. All other wheels fell of the wagon at Camp Affirmative Action.

Really...I guess that if Nichols had been out on bond-obviously the "threat" wasn't there. Had it been though, he would have been treated the same way? I had forgotten the fact that he had been out on bond? What sense would it make to shackle him in the court when he had just been out in public? As far as court goes, in trials of "accused" potentially violent offenders, what is the protection to the court?

"It's pretty amazing how lax people get about manning emergency positions."

I work for a techical company (Engineering) and we have a young immigrant from Ghana who has an electrical engineering degree and is studying for a masters. In the evening he works for a security firm that provides security for a number of federal buildings. He regularly takes his books and 5 or 6 DVD movies in to his security job with him to pass the time away on his weekend, overnight shifts. They do not carry weapons and are restricted to the front desk or the security room. If the camera picks up anything suspicious then they call the police. Hopefully, any suspicious activity will occur between movies...

Mayor Blooming-idiot has Dinkin's police commissioner now.

Street crime is escalating and most of Bratton/Kerik's initiatives with regard to street crime have been undone.

The deputy whose gun was taken wasn't killed. She was struck in the head. He also killed a male (big, strong?) deputy outside of the courthouse. I would assume the deputy killed outside was also armed.
