A private plane has crashed in Big Bear Lake and is in the water just beside a road that seperates the main lake from a marsh.
The plane is in the water. No word on injuries. Five police police car and three fire engines and one forestry fire engine are on the scene.
A medical airlift has taken place in relation to the accident but it is unclear who or how many people have been injured or if there are any fatalities.
Praying for the best for the people on board
I wonder how many environmentalists read a breaking story like this and worry about the chemicals that might have been spilled, rather than the welfare of the people aboard.
How big of a plane...
Finally good weather has the private pilots out here, too. That first dose of spring can be harmful or fatal unless proper checks are made and procedures followed.
Prayers for those aboard.
Isn't there an aviation ping list?
They might like to know....
Pings...
huh?
The poster means you get news here faster than anywhere else.
Big Bear (L35) is a high density altitude airport. Meaning airplanes do not perform as well at that altitude and you must take care when operating there to follow procedures for high density altitude airports. Also Big Bear is in mountainous terrain. Downdrafts can exceed your climb rate.
Have to wait for the NTSB report. Its easy to guess and be wrong without any details.
used to live in Victorville so went to Big Bear all the time...it has been awhile but I can't remember, is Lake Arrowhead a higher elevation than Big Bear Lake?????
Ping
Is the aircraft upside down, or right side up and horizontal? If the latter, I suspect there are no fatalities.
Thanks for the clarification. :o)
Big Bear is a higher elevation.
Prayers
As a private pilot, and former 10-yr resident of BGB, this was a relatively common occurrence on spring & summer Sundays, when "flatland" pilots were heading home with a full load and full fuel, without adjusting weight & balance for their 6750 foot altitude takeoff from a runway with lake at both ends; most just mushed into the shallow water with minor injuries, except to their egos. This is not meant to minimize the seriousness of this, just to say that it is not too uncommon up there.
thought so...been awhile but i used to go to Arrowhead for their small Octoberfest in the late 80s........very cool....now that you mention it I now have my geography squared away.......remember the Rim of the World school up there for some reason
Much appreciated input. I'll relay it to the bystanders looking on the scene.
