Oddly enough it seems all the fantasies of science fiction are dreams of the future scientific reality. As they say in Forbidden Planet: Imagine, a life form with no instrumentality! Surely that is where we are headed, and maybe that is where we came from. This is really the story of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Arthur C. Clarke is in the evolutionary Sci Fi genre and always believed we have to evolve to take the next step into the cosmos. (e.g. Childhood's End).

And how many of us that are thinking about living forever have a damn thing to do with the technologies that might make it possible? I know I don't.

I wish the Lord would send me an e-mail in this regard.

His letter is already online.

I would have no problem being "bored" for 500 or 500,000 years given the opportunity.

Yes, but what about the people around you who would find you boring for the next 500 or 500,000 years? They might just decide to do away with you right then and there after hearing you tell them the same old stories for like the billionth time.

we have to evolve to take the next step into the cosmos

A lot of ifs between us and that destiny.

I hate to rain on your parade but by sheer human will and prevention you will NOT live forever.

When my daughter was small (maybe 3 or 4) I was talking to her about Jesus because she'd had a catechism lesson. I said something about it being a shame He was crucified and she said "Yeah, because he'd still be alive today." I said no, because he'd be 2,000 years old and people don't live that long. She literally shook and asked "But all people don't die?" I had to explain they did, but that was a long way off, etc.

Thereafter she determined that she was going to invent a "live forever spray" and spray it on me so that I would live forever. However, some years later she announced that she was probably never going to invent that spray, and that I would, in fact, die. Thus far this has been my closest brush with immortality.

Good point. You know, a person can develop quite a few bad habits over the course of a few thousand yars. Imagine some poor woman faced with living forever with some slob who plops himself in front of the TV every night for an evening of beer guzzling, face-stuffing, and flatulence. I think after about 500,000 years of this, and she'd be ready to kill the guy.

I don't often do this, but since you made a sincere request, here is your answer.

I do have purposes for you other than to raise children. Start checking your email more often. There are new opportunities every day. I'll bump you up My list.

HOW TO LIVE FOREVER --- GOD'S THREE-STEP PROGRAM

A. ADMIT YOU HAVE SINNED: "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

B. BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST: "If you will confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9).

C. CALL UPON THE LORD: "For whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus), will be saved" (Romans 10:13).

Imagine how much house one could get on an 800-year mortgage!

In England and Northern Ireland Leaseholds often run for 900-999 years. Here's a property with 900 years remaining on its leasehold. Here's another.

I'm familiar with those leases. I'm speaking more of borrowing that long.
