Dallas billboard asks: 'Why Islam?'

The way to religious tolerance is through a billboard - or at least that's the idea behind a display for tens of thousands of commuters in North Dallas each day.

It's not a question a lot of people ask themselves on the way to work. But there it is, hanging above westbound LBJ Freeway near Webb Chapel: "Why Islam?"

The sign also offers a Web site address and a toll-free phone number in New Jersey.

"When the call comes in, it transfers to the team of volunteers," said Adnan Fyed of the Islamic Circle of North America. "And those volunteers they will call you back and they pick up the phone at the same time."

"Why Islam?" is a program run by the Islamic Circle of North America to educate anyone who wants to know about the religion. The website offers information on Allah, pilgramages and even audio lectures.

Visitors can also watch a slide show on Ramadan, and are invited to visit a mosque. There's even a chatroom.

"If you go and become a member of the forum, you can go and ask whatever questions you have," Fyed said.

The chat room addresses such topics as suicide bombings, and hating Christians.

With so many hostile ideas out there, the effort aims to help provide the truth about the religion.

The packed parking lot for Friday services at the Islamic Center of Irving shows how much the faith is growing in North Texas. Now with the hotline and the website, members of the community hope to get out the word concerning what Islam is all about.

Sorry, it's back to Formatting 101 for me!

I should have just posted the link.

Thanks for your kind response, you're right.

But don't say anything negative or they might come to your house and chop off your head!

"In my opinion, you have a seriously soft head, friend."
And the corollary would be a hard head? Friend?

"This indicates a hicough in your logic. Is a Muslim that doesn't follow the commands of his holy book a Muslim or Infidel? "

Is a Christian that doesn't follow the commands of his holy book to "love his enemy" a Christian or an Infidel?

Are all the stupid hateful posters on this thread (and every thread on Islam) deniers of Jesus' Word?

Before you say the only answer: "YES!"... you have to look at more than just a few words to understand a religion- that's not a "hiccough" of logic.

There are no "infidels" in Christianity. Islam considers an "infidel" one to be killed or enslaved. Ther is no correlation at all.

Are all the stupid hateful posters on this thread (and every thread on Islam) deniers of Jesus' Word?

Do you think Jesus would have us lay down and let Islam impose by force of arms itself, and its law, over that of the Christian way? Islam is directly in opposition to all that is Christian, every jot and tittle.

God commands us to be peacefuol as the dove, but wise as the serpent. God does not bless stupidity.

"What does the Bible say to do when faced with evil/Satan?"

Christ said he came to devide, not unite.

Christ drew a line in the sand, to be a light to those who are lost and to shine a light on the hypocricy and evil that existed, and still exists, to this very day.

He stated that there is no greater love than for a man to give up his life for another. He stated it would be better to be blind than to embrace evil and all it represents.

He did not condem those that sought to protect others from it, even if that meant to take a life in doing so.

He warned that great tribulations were due those who knowingly allowed innocence to be corrupted.....

They have a Constitutional gov't that separates gov't from religion as does the US. What's to say?

First off the US derives it laws and values from Judeo Christianity. If you want to argue about that then its another issue.

Islam cannot be apart of any Westernized Government such as Turkey. Turkey had to expel and reform all Islamists inorder to achieve the government they have! The point is Islam cannot be apart of any government that is friendly to the West.

"Do you think Jesus would have us lay down and let Islam impose by force of arms itself, and its law, over that of the Christian way? "

Thast's just what I mean: you and I do not take Jesus' clear and unequivocal command to love our enemies in a simplistic way (though the Quakers and some other "extremists" do).

Neither do Muslims take Koranic Jihad verses simplisticly (well, some "extremists" do).

Does attending a Mosque make you a terrorist?

It might not make one a terrorist, but it will make one choosing the same evil that inspires terrorists.
