Former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, dispatched by the CIA in February 2002 to investigate reports that Iraq sought to reconstitute its nuclear weapons program with uranium from Africa, was specifically recommended for the mission by his wife, a CIA employee, contrary to what he has said publicly.
Wilson last year launched a public firestorm with his accusations that the administration had manipulated intelligence to build a case for war. He has said that his trip to Niger should have laid to rest any notion that Iraq sought uranium there and has said his findings were ignored by the White House.
Wilson's assertions both about what he found in Niger and what the Bush administration did with the information were undermined yesterday in a bipartisan Senate intelligence committee report.
The panel found that Wilson's report, rather than debunking intelligence about purported uranium sales to Iraq, as he has said, bolstered the case for most intelligence analysts. And contrary to Wilson's assertions and even the government's previous statements, the CIA did not tell the White House it had qualms about the reliability of the Africa intelligence that made its way into 16 fateful words in President Bush's January 2003 State of the Union address.

Sue Schmidtt is one of the few reasons ever to read the WAPO.
Wilson's report to the CIA, was pretty much like the focus of Monica Lewinsky's relationship with Bill Clinton, oral.
So: Wilson comes off looking like the POS he seemed to be at the time !
FYI.
Date of article: July 10, 2004
No wonder Tenet said Iraqi WMDs were a "slam dunk," eh?
Thanks for the ping!
I just caught the date. I'm sure you already have this filed away.
Hm......this report was released on a Saturday!!! Why am I not surprised---
also, why am I not surprised that none of the chat shows this morning discussed this little story...
Joe Wilson still portends that Plame didn't recommend him for the job even though they have memos from her talking about her husband's qualifications....then, when he is confronted with the fact that the dates he said were wrong, he COULDN'T have known about, he pleads "oh I might have misspoke"...
None of this washes, and he should be hammered for an hour on 60 Minutes about it, just like he got "60 minutes" to hammer the Bush Administration about the "lies"!!!
C'mon Freepers, we need to expose this crap like the Dan Rather fake memos were exposed---you know that MSM will not touch this either---I am surprised that WaPo published this story---I just wonder what page of the paper it was on, 130?
Wow! Wilson lied and lied and lied! Plame got him the job and he outright lied to the American people. Hopefully he will be prosecuted for his actions.
And .. wasn't it one of Wilson's other lies that he gave the "oral" report to Cheney directly - which Cheney and Cheney's staff say "never happened".
OK-- I'll ask. Is it that this was written and printed back in July? That's my assumption. Or is that this was written in July but not printed until today?
But .. was it some democrat in the CIA who knew that Russia was taking the WMD out of Iraq (and withheld that info) - which the State Dept is now claiming did happen.
I think you would suppose correctly!
What a liberal says about another liberal caught in a bald faced lie.
Now THAT is manipulation !!!
How can that be?
