Why did I need XP again?

So you can call Microsoft to "re-activate" your OS whenever you make a change to your systems' hardware.

I don't know what y'all are doing wrong. My fiance reinstalled XP on my PC (upgraded my motherboard, processor, video card) and didn't talk to Microsoft at all.
