NO stories at my funeral- knowing my friends they'd get up there and tell the stories about those wild nights in Tijuana in front of my whole family...
In your shoes, I would choose your eulogist now.
I wouldn't have this nonsense at one of my family member's funerals. We do a eulogy, a short sermon, and maybe a song or two. But ultimately we bury the body and move on - just as their spirit has.
My father had a high Catholic sermon with the focus being on eternal life and the shortness of our lives here. The music was lovely and tradtional... and there were no stories.
How 'bout Queen's Anther One Bites The Dust?

My grandmother had a lovely Catholic funeral in New Orleans, where she lived. Family gathered from all over the country, and after the funeral we went out to her favorite restaurant in the French Quarter and partied and told all those stories, cried, laughed and generally behaved like Irishmen. Had we all lived in the same town, we would have held a good old Irish wake prior to the funeral, where songs and stories and tears and laughter would have been the order of the day.
If you're gonna die, it's best to be Irish. Easier on the family, I think, to celebrate and mourn all at the same time.
"Elvis: Peace in the Valley"
Good choice. We recently had "Jesus Help Me To Stand" by Alison Krauss played at my step-Mom's funeral. Really, really moving.
