CHARLESTON, West Virginia (AP) -- The businessman who won the nation's richest undivided lottery jackpot was sued Friday by the father of a teenager who died of a drug overdose at his home in September.
The wrongful death lawsuit said Jesse Joe Tribble was led astray by Jack Whittaker's late granddaughter, and it said he should have exercised more control over her since she was in his custody.
Whittaker promised to fight the case by Tribble's father, Jimmy Tribble. "I'll be dead and gone to hell before he gets a dime out of me," Whittaker said.
Tribble, 18, was found dead September 17 at Whittaker's home in Scott Depot.

Although juries can be strange it's doubtful Whittaker will have to fight hard to win. The case appears frivolous to me.
The lottery is a scam anyway....
the trouble with tribbles....star trek, sorry I had too.
Probably sooner than later.
Pot, meet Kettle....Any jury worth its salt will ask why this father had no control over his rotten son but expects the lottery winner to have control over his rotten granddaughter.
Dick Cheney has been in fewer news reports than has Jack Whittaker.
This idiot boy and Whittaker's idiot granddaughter did nothing but spend tons of money (compliments of granddad) on great quantities of drugs, and they both ended up dead of overdoses. Both families should take some responsibility for what happened with these children, and suing Jack over it is just stupid. But what can you expect when a guy has $100 million or so lying around? It's a temptation, and even frivolous lawsuits usually end up with a payday.
Some states like NY make it real difficult to claim a large prize anonymously but there are ways. If I was ever to get that lucky the first thing I'd do is find one of them.
Powerball allows discreet collection.
Hope I have to worry about that someday {;^)
Same here, I'd be happy to win the Pick 4.
Lawyers will be the only winners as usual.
sheer lunacy. and greed.
..intere$ting. ...all I have to do now, i$ win the lottery (odds are 120,526,770 to 1 ) and find if it work$.
