Christianity's past wasn't always so peaceful...

Christianity has always been pretty peaceful. The state, of course, never is, however, and when Christiany becomes a arm of the state it becomes corrupted.

Any religion can be perverted by man-

I think the point with Islam is that when violence and sexual brutality is done in its name, it's not be perverted. The doers are actually following the commands of Mohammed.

OTOH, when these things are done in the name of Christ, it is a true perversion.
