Six years after he became the only elected U.S. president ever to be impeached, Bill Clinton is now almost "beloved," says Newsweek's Howard Fineman.
"Whatever desk he occupies, he will always be center stage," he gushed to MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Wednesday night. "That is the way [Clinton] is."
Commenting on the ex-president's surgery this week, the Newsweek scribe added: "Everybody wishes him well. He's almost reached the beloved stage."
Writing on Newsweek's web site two days later, Fineman still sounded like the president of the Bill Clinton fan club.
"I imagine its tough, even for Clintons enemies, to hate the guy anymore," said Newsweek's top political reporter, apparently without consulting Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey or Juanita Broaddrick.
"The sense exists, perhaps grows more vivid, that Bill Clinton somehow embodies us all," he insisted.
Despite the ex-president's terrible record on terrorism, the Newsweeker suggested that President Bush might consider "turning over Middle East diplomatic portfolio to him." Clinton, said Fineman, "knows the history, indeed he has helped shape it."
Of the recent thaw between the Bush family and Mr. Clinton, he posits:
"Who knows? By 2009 the Bushes and Clintons could be together at the White House again - with Hillary as hostess."
YIKES! Can you just imagine the lovefest if "god forbid" he dies?
Fineman is indeed gushing. .....much like Clinton did when he was center stage at that old desk of his.
Howard, come to Upland and interview me.
Amazing how sick Clinton looked. It has been noted that he has kept his medical records a secret. I all for that for the average person, but not someone who is running for president.
I must admit that if it came between Clinton and John Kerry, I'll take Clinton.
LOL! Suddenly I feel filthy.
Actually he's just worn out our will to resist. I suspect we're going to have to put some ice on it later.
.............darn, that nose is getting bigger... ;-)
But wasn't elected.
Although I agree the reporter's statement is misleading.
I hate to say this and am getting nauseous at the thought - but I agree!
Bill Clinton....................almost human...........
From the following reference and google search

"During the secession crisis, Johnson remained in the Senate even when Tennessee seceded, which made him a hero in the North and a traitor in the eyes of most Southerners. In 1862 President Lincoln appointed him Military Governor of Tennessee, and Johnson used the state as a laboratory for reconstruction. In 1864 the Republicans, contending that their National Union Party was for all loyal men, nominated Johnson, a Southerner and a Democrat, for Vice President. "
Yeah, that and the 40 pound Bible are the best.
I never hated Clinton.
I was just disgusted by his selfish behavior.
Thanks. So Lincoln made a coalition, like in Israel.
I'd even take Hillary over Kerry. At least she's only a "aspiring traitor."
Fineman's had his head up that wrinkled, old ASS for about 12 years now.
"Everybody wishes him well. He's almost reached the beloved stage."
I wished him well too, but I don't love him or hold him as beloved. I'm just a decent person who doesn't wish harm on my political opponents, unlike the Dems. who would be praying for Bush to die on the operating table.
Howard Fineman always was a hack. He projects his own opinion on to the public at large. He thinks because in his Manhattan talking circles they all love Clinton, everyone else in America must as well. Get a grip Howie and get some cult deprogramming to get you out of your Clinton zombiedom.
