If he is proved innocent, remove the chains and set him free.

the deputies get laxThis goes beyond lax and travels well into WTF?! territory. Prayers for the families of the slain, but it seems inconceivable that someone can steal a gun from a sheriff's deputy, shoot (and kill three out of) four people, make it from the 8th floor of the building (which is loaded with armed police officers) to the street below, do a series of car jackings in the downtown of one of America's biggest cities, and disappear to God knows where. This reads like a really bad movie script.

Had he been in chains and shackles, I would venture to say 3 people would still be alive. The charges he was facing was serious enough to warrant it.

"An unloaded gun is pretty worthless. Maybe the deputies need more training or they should allow other people to carry concealed in the courthouse."
I wonder if the Fulton Co. Sheriffs Deputies have the high-speed locking holsters that prevent incidents such as this. Its been my experience in law enforcement that many of the sheriffs deputies assigned to bailiff and other court duties are not as well equipped as the beat-walking officers of most PDs. I know of some bailiffs who still carry revolvers!

I agree. I don't see how he ever got out of the Court House.

An unloaded gun is pretty worthless. Maybe the deputies need more training or they should allow other people to carry concealed in the courthouse. Or maybe they should put their pistols on short lanyards. It's not foolproof, but it should allow them to stop most who would do this.
To: antiRepublicrat
I hadn't thought of that. Ala RCMP, don't they have their sidearms on lanyards?

Here's another thing: Police, deputy, FBI, GBI can carry their weapons into the court, but my husband who has a license to carry a concealed weapon can't. I can understand this, especially keeping family members from carrying in weapons, but someoen like my husband (a private investigator) without his weapon is pretty much unable to help in a situation like the one this morning in downtown Atlnata\
This isa sad day for many of Atlantans who lost a dear friend in the judge....not to mention the families of the deputy.

I just heard on FoxNews that the deputy was a woman.
To: islander-11
The Atlanta shooting of this AM is all over radio and TV. It's now being disclosed that there was just one baliff/deputy in the court where the shooting occured, and 'she was a woman who may not have had the strength to keep the killer from taking her weapon.'
Stand by for a PC fecal storm over this one.
