Anybody know this guy's background? Amazing he managed to grab a gun, shoot 3 deputies and escape from a building which likely had many more deputies and still be on the run.

There is, sadly, a certain inevitable complacency that sets in amond court deputies, doing the same thing..transporting human scum, over and over again..they are careful, but this is the first incident of this type in the US in a decade..You're careful, but you're also on autopilot..

BTW.. I caught the Atlanta chief's presser..can he speak English coherently?

You asked about the suspect's background. I heard and local station interview a juror - he stated that he had a background in criminal justice! Possibly this is how he knew how to quickly secure that gun - they also stated the deputy's guns were usually in some kind of contraption that required 2 stages to disengage from holster.....

Yep, that struck me as well. Don't know all the details yet but it seems to me that the innocent always pay dearly because of some liberal's inane sense of fairness.. in that he wasn't handled in a more secure way considering the shiv, machine gun charge and his rap sheet.
