In a perfect world, Dan Rather would have left his CBS News studio, and with his crowd of well-wishers and supporters in tow, walked up to the roof of CBS headquarters to board a helicopter to whisk him away from the national stage. Perhaps he could have even offered one last Nixonian gesture, a wave and two-handed victory sign?
But his farewell comments at the end of his last broadcast as CBS News anchor will do just fine.
A mere 215 words, it certainly wasn't verbose, even by the economical standards of the nightly news. And, on the surface, it was fair enough. The guy's gotta say something, right?

The biggest problem all these exposed Liberals in the media face today, is that they still haven't figured out that they have been exposed :-)
For far too many years, the left never faced a real challenge to their majority status. Today they control absolutely nothing. Republicans control all three branches of the Federal Government and 29 of the 50 States Governors. What we are seeing today is living proof that the left is incapable of dealing with being in the Minority :-)

This observation would seem to apply to the great bulk of the DOM (dying old media) as well as to Rather.
The first thing I noticed about Rather's "farewell" was that he exhorted everybody to have "courage" except for the regular hardworking taxpayers of this country. Rather always gave his attention ONLY to those whom he decided were "oppressed", or victims of some kind or another. The rest of us were strictly there to have our wallets raped by government, with Danno's blessing.
Again, good riddance to bad garbage.

Pat Buchanan: "Rather was a good reporter. Whatever you say about him. He really wanted to be there when the story was there. He wanted to be first with it. He wanted to be there when history was made. It's just that when you sit him down in that chair... You know we found out that Walter Cronkite has all these globalist views and he is very liberal, and we all knew that back in the 1960's. But it was uncle Walter telling us the news when he got behind that desk. I think Rather had a real problem basically ceasing to be Dan Rather confrontationist in the press room in the White House, and shifting to the Cronkite role. So in a sense he got all the fire and heat and he was constantly in battles with our side on every issue and he would fight back."
Dan who?
I really think it's ok to have a slant on the News, but not to also be condescending and pompous while reading it. I watched Rather the other night for the first time in many, many years and it was just painful. To me he seemed to be speaking r-e-a-l - - s-l-o-w so we - the uninformed - could absorb his every word.
I don't know where the future of news will be - probably in the internet and satellite radio - but it sure isn't with the Big Three and those who believe they have some special gift.
Dan Rather will be a footnote to the 'history of news reporting' with a smiley face beside his name.
Now that Dan is gone, never forget the truth: When you see the eye, expect a lie.
Don't let the door hit you in the @%# on the way out........
He told NBC's Tim Russert: "You know, my job is to be accurate, be fair and, insofar as it's humanly possible, to keep my feelings out of every story..."

I think this is where they go wrong. They try to be "fair". They should just report the facts accurately. The truth is always "fair".
